Snowiest ski area in the Alps

We are thrilled to be the first UK tour operator to offer ski holidays to Warth-Schröcken, a delightfully unspoilt ski resort in the super-snowy Vorarlberg region of western Austria.

Anyone familiar with Lech may already have had a tantalising glimpse of this fabulous little area – the slopes of Warth are clearly visible from those of its more prestigious neighbour. However, until recently this is as close as many British visitors will have got. It was possible to ski off-piste between the two resorts, but despite being just 5km apart, the road is closed in winter due to avalanche danger, effectively cutting the resorts off from one another for 4-5 months of the year.

All this has now changed... After years of legal wrangling, the two ski areas were finally linked in December 2013, in what we regard as one of the most exciting skiing developments that Austria has seen in many years.

Even before the link, Warth-Schröcken was a special resort. First and foremost it gets a lot of snow – an average of nearly 11m a year in fact - making it the snowiest ski area in the Alps. This figure is all the more remarkable given the modest 1675m that it is measured at.

If it’s powder you’re after then Warth-Schröcken is as good a place as any to hedge your bets. What’s more, it won’t get tracked out as quickly as in better known Lech-Zürs, and with a guide you can have hours of fun getting off the beaten track.

On-piste there’s plenty of enjoyment to be had too, with 68km of mostly intermediate terrain ideal for high-speed cruising - 186km if you include Lech (reachable from Warth in just 25 minutes).

Adventurous skiers can even get to St Anton and back in day (taking the 10 minute bus ride from Zürs to Rauz) bringing the number of kilometres of piste available on the new Arlberg lift pass to 350km!

Get there first before everyone else discovers it!

We are delighted to be working with the wonderful Hotel Lechtaler Hof in Warth, the higher and more convenient of the two unspoilt villages of Warth-Schröcken. 

Despite the wonderfully un-commercial feel of the place, standards of accommodation are high and the locals are exceptionally welcoming.
