Selva is one of the best known and best placed resorts on the famous Sella Ronda circuit, an unfeasibly vast area of slopes set amidst stunning Dolomite scenery close to the Austrian border.

The skiing

The local slopes cover both sides of the valley and offer an interesting mix of tree-lined runs and open bowl skiing. The area is home to some of the longest and most exhilarating runs in the Dolomites, including the men’s world cup downhill (the Saslong) and an epic 1300m vertical descent from Seceda to Ortisei.

Further afield the options are endless. You can ski the main Sella Ronda circuit in either direction, taking in the resorts of Colfosco, Corvara and Arabba along the way, or (time-permitting) divert to the more outlying villages of San Cassiano and La Villa.

Less confident skiers are also well catered for with excellent nursery slopes below the Dantercëpies gondola and some splendid easy cruising terrain at Plan de Gralba and Alpe di Siusi (above Ortisei).

The resort

Selva is a sizeable roadside village at the head of the spectacular Val Gardena, in the heart of the Dolomites. This region was once part of Austria and the Tirolean influence remains strong both culturally and linguistically.

Après-ski is livelier and more varied than you might expect and there is plenty to entertain non-skiers including miles of scenic winter walking.
