The skiing
Even without the rest of the 3 Valleys, Courchevel would rate as one of the world’s finest ski resorts. With it, it is hard to beat for any level of skier.
The easiest slopes are closest to the resort (1650 and 1850), which boasts some of the widest and gentlest home runs in the Alps. Further afield, the terrain gets steeper with an excellent mix of tree-lined runs and more open bowls and gullies.
Keen skiers will also want to explore the rest of the 3 Valleys, an area so vast that you could spend weeks here and still be discovering new pistes. All this backed by a state-of-the-art lift system, that means that you rarely have to queue even during the busiest of times.
The resort
Courchevel comprises four main resorts, long known by their (approximate) altitudes, but recently rebranded Courchevel Le Praz (Courchevel 1300), Courchevel Village (Courchevel 1550), Courchevel Moriond (Courchevel 1650) and simply Courchevel (Courchevel 1850).
Courchevel is France’s most chic resort with lots of super-smart hotels, shops and restaurants. Although purpose-built, it is mostly low-rise and cleverly designed to blend into its wooded surroundings. The resort stretches a long way up the hill, but all the hotels are either on or very close to the pistes. Most also have private shuttles.
Courchevel has a reasonable choice of après-ski venues including some very exclusive clubs. Off-slope activities are relatively limited, but it is easy for pedestrians to get up the mountain and meet skiing colleagues for lunch.
